What is HMCS Sackville, and where is it moored?

HMCS Sackville is the only surviving corvette of the 269 Allied corvettes built during the Second World War. Commissioned in Saint John, New Brunswick, on December 29, 1941, it escorted convoys between St. John’s, Newfoundland, and Londonderry, Northern Ireland.
The Government of Canada designated the ship as Canada’s Naval Memorial in 1985, and it is also a National Historic Site of Canada. Its summer berth is Sackville Landing on Halifax’s waterfront, beside the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic.
From November to mid-June, the ship is berthed at HMC Dockyard instead. The visitor address at Sackville Landing is 1675 Lower Water Street, Halifax, Nova Scotia B3J 1S3.
What can you see aboard HMCS Sackville?

Visitors can see exhibits and artifacts aboard a ship restored to its wartime configuration. Tours are tailored to visitors’ circumstances and last from 15 to 60 minutes or longer. You can also rent a handheld audio device for a self-directed tour in a variety of languages.
The ship has multiple levels connected by ladders, and its uneven decks can make exploring challenging for visitors with mobility issues. Wheelchairs, walkers and baby strollers cannot be accommodated aboard.
When is HMCS Sackville open, and what should you check?

HMCS Sackville is open daily in July and August, while hours may vary from September until November. Self-guided tours during that later period are weather permitting.
Opening hours
